Connecticut has filed its application for Phase II federal “Race to the Top” funding. In its application, Connecticut seeks $175 million in federal funds. The U.S. Department of Education has the authority to make up to $3.4 billion in grants during Phase II of the competitive grant program. 34 other states and the District of Columbia filed Phase II applications, and it is expected that there will be 10-15 winners. Connecticut will find out if it is a finalist the week of July 26. If it is named a finalist, a delegation from Connecticut would travel to Washington, D.C. the week of August 9 to present its case for the requested funding. Winners will be announced in late August.
