As the board of directors for the school district, board of education members have a unique variety of responsibilities to meet and roles to fill. Among their many duties, board members are expected to work collaboratively with the Superintendent of Schools, ensure that Board decisions are made within statutory requirements, foster a collaborative environment among fellow members and the community, and maintain a focus on improving the school district’s student achievement.
To aid board members in becoming more effective in their roles, we recently held a complimentary webinar titled, Board Member Boot Camp: Roles and Responsibilities. In this webinar, Gary Brochu reviewed board member and chairperson responsibilities, tips for effective board meetings, board member confidentiality, potential conflicts of interest, board member discipline, board policy best practices, and board goal setting, accountability, governance and overall culture. The webinar is now available to watch on demand. Please follow the prompts and register/log-in when launching the replay.
