On November 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m., Attorneys Jessica Ritter and jsoufer will examine teacher and student use of social media and social networking, and the intersection of individual rights with the school’s authority to regulate the school environment. During this live audio conference through Lorman Education Services, we will review how student and employee policies should address teacher and student use of social media, including discipline of teachers and students, respectively. Attorneys Ritter and Stein will examine recent litigation involving student and employee use of social media in the context of the public school arena and discuss the limitations of school authority to regulate individual speech. Discussion will conclude with practical suggestions for establishing clear expectations for both students and employees and developing best practices for managing teacher and student use of social media and social networking sites.
